The Spirit Horse Program is an Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) Adventure. This program introduces participants to the interactive experience of horses as compassionate teachers of basic life skills. Through grooming, round-pen work, and riding exercises, people build a special relationship with their equine partner, developing trust, self-esteem, self control, and communication skills.
Horses respond only to the immediate actions of participants-they do not assess those actions in light of past behaviors, diagnoses, or labels. Horses provide immediate positive responses for appropriate behavior, which is extremely powerful for a child or an adult who is usually considered a failure at school, work or a problem at home. The Spirit Horse program employs the unconditional nature of a horse’s response in providing the opportunity for participants to develop important life skills.
Our equine facilitated mental health or equine facilitated learning program has been implemented with a variety of people, including young children, at-risk teens and professionals of all types. Adults seeking personal growth and development have also benefited greatly from working with these magnificent animals in this powerful program.
Groups that have previously benefited from this program include leadership groups, mental health agencies, and youth at-risk, as well as church groups.
